Location Description

Te Kuiti the 'Shearing Capital of the World' is situated in the hub of the North Island and is home to a 7 metre exquisite sculpture of a shearer which is situated at the south end of Te Kuiti and is a great attraction for people passing through. Te Kuiti is host to the New Zealand shearing championships which is held annually in the Waitomo Cultural and Arts Centre.

In the late 1800's, a small railway camp was set up in the rugged bush clad hills of the central North Island and the railway construction town on Te Kuiti was established. From it's railway camp beginnings, Te Kuiti has become a major service centre for sheep and beef farms renowned for the production of excellent stock.
